Overload Convention 2014

As always, if you’re new to my blog, read my “About” section first to know what you’re getting yourself into. Link here: https://araka13.wordpress.com/about Thanks.

Overload 2014… what a fun experience. How can I best sum it up? “I came, I saw and I was pleasently surprised.” Yes, I guess that would sum it up correctly. When ever people hear about convention there usually are only three possible reactions:

  1. OMG! I neeeeeedz to be there! When? Where? What should I wear??
  2. Eh, it’s just going to be overcrowded and overpriced.
  3. I don’t care for those events. (Shame on you…)

To be honest, at first, I wasn’t too sure about it either, but as mentioned earlier I was pleasently surprised. The people were all very friendly and none of the cosplayers got upset when they were asked by the 30th person if they can take their picture. The prices were reasonable and the salespeople weren’t too pushy.

I would only have one complaint and that is the lack of food options. But then again, that was to be expected. Well and the fact that the weather wasn’t really on our side. The event started at 10am and went until 6pm, but personally I only stayed there for about 2 to 3 hours. Why? Well because my money was disappearing rather quickly and I didn’t have much else to do.

But of course I did promise you guys some pictures. And I’m not going to disappoint 🙂 Here are some of the Cosplayers. (brace yourself for a wave of pictures)

Of course we can’t forget the special guest that attended this year.  Yoshitoshi ABe. He did a live drawing at the convention and the picture was auctioned off. The money from that will be used to fund Overload 2015, and you can be sure I’ll be there. Here’s a picture of his live drawing (personally I think she looks rather tired ^^)

All in all a very very fun experience and I’m rather tempted to attend the next convention in Auckland. Which should be Armageddon at the end of October. If I decide to go you can be sure I’ll bring you plenty of pictures 🙂

Oh and of course I ended up buying a few things here and there, so here’s a picture of my current collection. Still very tiny, but reasonable considering I started last month xD

I’m sure you can tell there is a special one among them. My very very adored Zoro. So here’s a close up ^^

I appologize for the weird layout, but I’m still trying to get WordPress to behave properly when I insert pictures.
But I guess that’s enough from me for now.

As always comments, likes and shares are welcome. And a big thank you to all those amazing cosplayers for letting me take their picture 🙂

  1. OMG that Zoro is just epic, I’m jealous!!!!
I can totally relate 😀 last year I went on my first ever convention and it was not even in Germany but in Austria when I visited a friend there (who I originally met on AF *cough* xD) and I was overwhelmed and my money was disappearing, too :/
yet I enjoyed it very much! And this year when I went to Austria again we visited another very small con that was held for the first time! It was so much smaller but still it was nice 😀 Last year was Austria’s biggest con “Aninite” and this years was called “Nippon Nation” 🙂

    • ^^ Glad you like it. I’m absolutely in love with it.

To be honest this convention wasn’t too big either but a lot of fun. The other one I was talking about (Armageddon) is – I believe – the biggest in NZ, so it should be a totally different experience.

When I was talking to Sreaky we agreed to definintaly go to some conventions when I’m back home. I hope you’re going to join us 🙂

Also, this was my first convention, so I should definately check some out in Austria when I visit Family next. ^^

  2. I’m so glad you had fun! Wandering around and trying to identify the cosplay is so entertaining, don’t you think?

Zoro is beautiful. Now if you could just get a life-sized, pettable version. *drools*

    • Yes it was a lot of fun. Some took me a while to identify and some were just super obvious the second I saw them 🙂

Life-sized pettable version you say? I could get used to that idea xD
